Enlarge letters A A Downsize letters A ACarpets in the public areas and on stairs were dirty and worn through on the stair treads. The lounge was dreary, painted in silver, grey and black. Smoking was allowed in here in the evening. The nubian dancers and belly dancers were poor, but the whirling dervish was excellent. The massage room was just a grubby cupboard but the masseuse was excellent despite his poor working place. We noticed that the pool towels were not looking clean and then realised that they were just refolded at the end on the day and put back in the 'clean' bin! Age range mostly 50 -70. English and German mainly.
CabinWe had a suite - 220 - on reception deck. It was spacious with a lounge area, settee, chair, coffee table and a table and 2 chairs. Bowl of fruit on arrival and a thermos of hot water, to make tea or coffee.King size bed.Efficient air conditioning.Bathroom with spa bath and shower over all in poor condition. chipped and worn enamel. Dirty spa vents.Cracked tiles and missing grout. Mastic smeared all over the place. A large puddle emerged from under the bath each time we had a shower. Reported 3 times but nothing done except to give us an extra bath mat to soak up the water. Toilet clean. Glass basin set into vanity unit looked quite new. Hair dryer on the wall. Sticky marks and old drink rings on the coffee table and dressing table. Dirty rugs on the floor and a fair amount of dust around.Dressing table drawer would not stay closed. Certainly not what we expected from a 4* suite!
GastronomySelf service buffet restaurant on floor 1.Good selection for breakfast.Omelettes made to order. Lunch and Dinner selections were very similar with a salad bar, soups and various hot dishes. Desserts at lunch were the same each day - jelly blancmange and fruit. Dinner desserts were various cakes and gateaux and fruit salad. Got rather monotonous and boring by the end of the week. Poor selection of drinks. Wine was either red or white and bought by the glass. It came out of a box and decanted into wine bottles which were never washed out or cleaned, just continuously refilled! Lots of dust evident on the shelves in the dining room. Dress code at breakfast and lunch was casual, shorts etc ok, the evening was smart casual.
ServiceStaff were pleasant and friendly. We enjoyed the animals etc made from the towels each day. Toilet paper bins in the bathroom were frequently cleared.Towels changed daily. As previously stated, the massage room was just a small 'cupboard', not very clean, but the masseuse was excellent. Prices here were reasonable. No hairdresser. Just a jewellery shop and one selling galabayas. There is a small lift.
Sport & EntertainmentThe top deck is where you sit when not on a trip. small pools just to cool off in, not for swimming. Plenty of sunbeds and tables and chairs and an awning at one end for those that want to keep out of the sun.. Afternoon tea served here at 4pm. Just an exercise bike and cross trainer machine situated on this deck which no-one used.Billiard room on the 4th deck . As previously mentioned, the pool towels were not clean and were just refolded and put back in the 'clean' bin at the end of the day. 3 evenings in the week there was entertainment, but it was very poor.
Land excursionsOur trips were included in our Thomas Cook package. Our guide for the week was AMRON and our group was called Pharoes. We could not fault any of the trips. Amron gave us so much information about everything. He always found a shady spot to stand and made everything so interesting. We all learned a lot from how to decipher hyrogriphics to all about the kings, queens and gods. A first class week of sightseeing..
Other tips and recommendationsThe weather in November is excellent for sightseeing as it is not too hot.It can be a little cool in the evenings ,so a light sweater is a good idea. Imodium was found not to work by some people that got 'Pharoes Revenge', but the medicine available at Egyptian pharmacies did work.
