Few know it, but Canada is the second largest country in the world. Lots of nature, infinite space and vibrant large cities shape the state in North America, which reaches from the Pacific to the
Atlantic and the North Pole to the Niagara Falls. To enter Canada a valid passport is required. A visa for EU citizens is not needed. There are several international airlines departing from Central
Europe which fly into the Canadian major cities; however which sometimes require a stopover in the United States. Your vaccination certificate should be up-to-date particularly hepatitis A and
tetanus. The official currency is the Canadian dollar; the official languages are English and French. The Canadian climate one can expect depends on which climate zone one is traveling to. The
South is marked by moderate climate zones, whilst the north reflects a very arctic climate. The ideal travel time depends entirely on your personal priorities. Winters and early spring are ideal for
doing winter sports, whilst the warmer months during and around the summer are ideal for exploring the city and going on tours to national parks. The voltage is 110 volts for Canada, therefore an
adapter with two pin plugs is necessary.
Country and People
The Canadians are considered as pleasant people to be around, relaxed and very hospitable. There are no great cultural differences apparent in Canada, as one can immediately feel the European flair
within the country. The situation is different with the natives, which are respectfully called Canada’s First Nations. Canadians try to keep their cultural heritage aware, as they are also an
inseparable part of Canadian history. 40% of Canadians are Catholic and about 30% Protestant. In the province of Quebec in eastern Canada the main spoken language is French, even the street signs
here are mostly in French, and not in English.
Getting Around
Due to the vastness of the country the most popular way to travel in Canada is by airplane. The road and motorway networks are very well developed; therefore many destinations can easily be reached
by car. The speed limit is between 100 and 110 km / h on motorways, 80 km / h on main roads outside urban areas and 50 km / h in urban areas. Radar checks are carried out by mobile measuring’s in
police cars. An International Driving Permit is recognized in Canada
Discover and Enjoy
Sights in Canada can be found in big cities but also in the countryside. Cities such as Quebec, Toronto and Vancouver - often called the most beautiful cities in the world - offer a big-city life
environment, an international flair, museums and lots of entertainment. Worth seeing are the world famous Niagara falls which are situated on the border with the United States. Toronto also offers
the nearby TV tower the CN Tower including its observation deck which lays 533 meters high, this experience is incomparable. The north of the country is an arctic dominated area, therefore is very
inviting for long walks, sleigh rides and discoveries. Canada has different types of cuisine, in the west, the British food has been a great influential factor, whereas in the east of the country the
French cuisine dominates. The Canadian cuisine offers a lot of fish, wild food, cranberries and mushrooms.
