Description
Until the Treaty of Roskilde of 1658, the confluence of the Nordre and Göta Älv marked the border between Sweden and Norway. The castle built by the Norwegians in 1308 had been hotly contested but was never taken. The tower and main gateway of the building extended in the 1600s are a reconstruction.
