General description: Cairo Citadel
The Saladin Citadel of Cairo is located in the heart of Cairo but high above the city. It is a medieval fortification built in the 12th Century and for 700 years Egypt was ruled from there.The Citadel encompasses both the Albaster Mosque of Mohammed Ali Khedive, as well as several smaller mosques and the Police Museum.
Not far away you can also find the mosque of Sultan Hassan and Rifai.
