General description: Cube houses

The Cube Houses or Kuboswoningen where based on the concept "living as an urban roof" by architect Piet Blom. Each house is bigger at the top then the bottom and takes on a cubic tree shape. When viewed from afar they look like a cubic forest.

Modern Architecture
The houses were built in the 1970s with the idea of high density housing without taking up too much space on ground level. In total 39 were built. There are 38 small cubes and 2 known as "super-cubes" which are all joined together to create the Cube Houses.

Inside a Cube House

  • The entrance is on the ground floor
  • The first floor houses the living room and kitchen
  • On the second floor you'll find 2 bedrooms and a bathroom
  • The top floor can be used for a small garden.

The larger cubes are now used as a hostel run by Stayokay.

Getting inside the Cube
There is a Show-Cube open for the public at Overblaak 70.
