The Everglades National Park in Florida is special in that it is the biggest subtropical wilderness in the United States of America!

The Everglades National Park enchants with its diversity of flora and large selection of wildlife including endangered species as well as many alligators and waterbirds. If you are extremely lucky you may spot one of the few remaining Florida Panthers, however there are less than 100 left and they know how to hide. The park is visited by around 1 million people per year and has been designated a World Heritage Site, an International Biosphere Reserve and a Wetland of International Importance.
 
Things to do in the Everglades National Park
The most common past time in this wonderful piece of nature is boating and hiking. The busiest time of year is in Winter/Spring from December - March as the mosquitoes are least active. Places you can visit include the Flamingo visitor center, the various wilderness Trials and alligator breeding areas.
 
Where is the Everglades National Park?
The park covers a large area on the southern tip of the Florida Peninsula. There are plenty of camping opportunities within in the park but you can also stay in the cities and drive in. The nearest big cities are Miami, Naples and Fort Lauderdale.
 
Directions:
The Everglades National Park covers around 1.5 million acres so it can be reached from many different spots. Everglades City is a good place to start as it is home to the visitor center.

The park does not close and is open 365 days a year 24 hours a day.

Tip: Watch out for vultures who like to eat the rubber off the cars. You may not harm them as they are protected species but try to avoid parking near a big group and if possible use a car cover.
