Description
Babelsberg - Faces of a Film City" is the name of the permanent exhibition at this museum. In it you can see rare artefacts, for example the school bench from the 1944 Heinz Rühmann film "The Punch Bowl", the exposé of the first Defa film "The Murderers Are Among Us" starring Hildegard Knef from 1946, and the wig of the Defa Indian star Gojko Mitic that he wore in the 1968 film "Trail of the Falcon". Lots of space is dedicated to the stars. In the Babelsberg Ufa (from 1921) and Defa studios (from 1946), actors such as Marlene Dietrich, Paul Wegener, Heinz Rühmann, Manfred Krug and Angelika Domröse appeared before the cameras. From the collection of films, the museum shows the double bioscope projector from 1895. The film museum includes a cinema which shows sophisticated contemporary and historical films. The museum is housed in the former stables, a long, reddish-brown building which was originally constructed as an orangery in 1686. The groups of horses and riders made from sandstone by Friedrich Christian Glume on the parapet walls recall the former royal stables. The stables and palace were connected by the "ringer colonnade", whose remains were set up below the Mercure Hotel in the restored pleasure gardens.
