Description
You probably wouldn't be able to see everything in the German Museum even if you had three weeks. With 55,000 m2 of exhibition space and around 17,000 objects, it is one of the world's biggest museums of science and engineering. The stocks of the museum, which was established in 1903 by Oskar von Miller, are constantly being expanded to include exhibits which show the latest technical developments. For instance, in the mammoth exhibition on the island in the River Isar you will find everything that man has ever come up with in terms of engineering feats. A few tips for those who are not so keen on technology: The attractions include the mine which is installed in a natural setting in the basement, as well as the aviation and shipping halls and the Faraday cage in the power engineering section. You should set aside time to visit the Zeiss Planetarium. In addition, in 1992 the German Museum created the Schleißheim hangar. From Otto Lilienthal's normal glider from the early days of aviation, vertical take-off planes and helicopters through to a 30 m high European rocket from 1971, you can trace the development of modern flying machines here. You can also try out being a pilot yourself on a flight simulator.
One of the world's biggest museums of technology and natural science allows visitors to experiment: get to know almost every area of the natural sciences and technology in a fun way.
The attractions include the Faraday Cage in the high voltage plant.
