Description
The name is derived from the green-painted walls of the "secret storage vault" for the magnificent treasures of gemstones, gold and ivory at the Royal Palace. After it was destroyed in the Second World War, the treasure chamber museum spent many decades exiled in the Albertinum. In September 2004, the first part of the exhibition moved into modern new premises in the west wing of the Royal Palace. The New Green Vault presents highlights such as the legendary cherry stone with the "185 countenances", August the Strong's "Golden Coffee Set" and the "Royal Household of the Grand Mogul Aureng-Zeb", the figure ensemble crafted from gold and precious stones by royal goldsmith Johann Melchior Dinglinger. Since September 2006, the Historic Green Vault has been completing the unique collection of treasure with 3000 exhibits. They are on open display in front of magnificent display walls and on splendid tables in the reconstructed original museum rooms on the ground floor of the palace. The highlight of the exhibition is the jewel room containing the precious items of August the Strong and his son Friedrich August II.
Augustus's "Pretiosen" (precious items) are now on display at Dresden Castle.
