Hagenbeck Zoo is a much more than just a zoo. Hagenbeck has been around for over 100 years and its name stands for a unique mix; a large park area in the middle of Hamburg with animals from all over the world, magnificent cultural monuments and sculptures.

A century of zoological history
In 1907 Carl Hagenbeck achieved his dream by opening his "Zoological garden of the future" - the first Adventure Zoo in the world. Hagenbecks views and open enclosures were a sensation at that time and still serve as a worldwide example for other zoos. Since 2007 Hagenbeck now offers a second year round attraction. As well as the traditional zoo a tropical aquarium was added. Guests can dine while watching majestic crocodiles and being face to face with sharks and other reef dwellers.
 
Animals of Hagenbeck
You will find a brand-new tropical aquarium featuring crocodiles, snakes and thousands of fish, a sensational orangutan house and elephants which "eat" out of your hand.  Hagenbeck celebrated its 100th birthday in 2007. Take your time to look around, even the play area is fantastic.
