Description
The two islands which are joined by a bridge are now amongst the city's most expensive residential districts. The larger one, the Île de la Cité, was already settled in Roman times and is a popular tourist destination because of Sainte-Chapelle and Notre Dame, as well as for the shady and tranquil Place de la Dauphine with its cafés which has an almost South of France feel, directly beside the Pont Neuf. The smaller island, the Île Saint-Louis is smaller and has a more aristocratic air. Rue Saint-Louis-en-Île with its tasteful and appetisingly presented little shops, crêperies and cafés runs across the entire island.
