Island of Spinalonga

Just off the coast of Crete, the Island of Spinalonga boasts beautiful views. The official name of the island is Kaldon. During Venetian occupation the island was carved out of the coast and Spinalonga was formed. 
 
Spinalonga has appeared in a number of television series and films.
 
In the villages of Elounda and Plaka there are boats which transport visitors across to the island for a daytrip. Here visitors can explore the many monuments and buildings which are still in good shape. There are also houses with the graves of the people which used to live there, a very interesting place to visit on holiday in Crete.
