Reviews: Islands of Sainte Marguerite and Saint Honorat Excursion
General description: Islands of Sainte Marguerite and Saint Honorat Excursion
When the film festival is not on there is not so much to do in Cannes so why not escape to these beautifl islands which you can see glittering like jewels in the ocean. The islands of Sainte-Marguerite and Saint-Honorat are two of the more mythical and mysterious locations near to Cannes.
Ile Saint-Marguerite (or St. Marguerite Island) was home to a man in an iron mask for 11 years; his cell can be visited in the Fort of St. Marguerite (Museum of the Sea), which also houses shipwrecks from Roman times.
Ile Saint-Honorat (or St. Honorat Island), is only inhabited by Cistercian monks, and has been since AD410. The same group of monks once owned Cannes, but now split their time between praying and producing red and white wines.
