Description
This is the most amazing park you can imagine as it is constructed around a blast furnace which shut down in 1985. The old blasting hall is now used as a concert and theatre hall. The central power station, one of the biggest halls in the Ruhr area, plays host to elaborate events. On the stand in the tapping hall you can watch cinema films in summer. The Alpine club climbs the concrete walls in the bunkers which are up to 16 m high. The Gasometer is filled with water and is used for diving training purposes. Otherwise you can just enjoy a walk in this park, e.g. on the bunker high path: you can see among other things the gaping caverns of the charge bunkers in which the ore mixture used to be stored, with the three blast furnaces alongside. You can walk around one of them. The climb up through the pipe system is a very unusual experience. On Fridays and Saturdays, the silhouette is transformed into a colourful light sculpture.
The old steelworks has a new function - for leisure and sport.
