The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C was built from 1912 - 1922 to honor the role Abraham Lincoln played in the American Civil War. The white marble statue of Abraham Lincoln is housed in a Greek Doric Temple. It is a totally original example of neoclassical architecture. Two of his well known speeches are carved into the temple; The Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. It was also the site for the world famous speech from Martin Luther King; "I have a Dream".
Opening Hours
The Lincoln Memorial is open 24 hours a day every day. Between 9:30am and 11:30pm, Rangers are on duty to answer questions.
