The Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C was built from 1912 - 1922 to honor the role Abraham Lincoln played in the American Civil War. The 16th President of the United States has been immortalized under the words "In this temple, as in the hearts of the people for whom he saved the Union, the memory of Abraham Lincoln is enshrined forever".
 
Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King
The white marble statue of Abraham Lincoln is housed in a Greek Doric Temple. It is a totally original example of neoclassical architecture. Two of his well known speeches are carved into the temple; The Gettysburg Address and the Second Inaugural Address. It was also the site for the world famous speech from Martin Luther King; "I have a Dream".
 
Opening Hours
The Lincoln Memorial is open 24 hours a day every day. Between 9:30am and 11:30pm, Rangers are on duty to answer questions.

Admission is free. The memorial is open to everyone!
