The Matterhorn is one of the most known and highest mountains in the Alps between Switzerland and Italy with an altitude of 4,478m. The Matterhorn was the last Alpine Mountain to be climbed and marked the golden age of alpinism with its first ascent by a party led by Edward Whypmer. The Matterhorn is an iconic symbol of the Swiss Alps and is one of the most popular routes to climb.

Practical information:
It is possible to ascend the Matterhorn everyday throughout the year, however in the winter it can become more difficult as the snow fall increases. A railway “the Gornergrat railway” rotates up and around the Matterhorn. The prices from Zermatt up to the Matterhorn and down are around 70€ which is open every day rotating every 24 minutes.
