Naples is full of history. It's historic city center is the largest in Europe as well as being a UNESCO world heritage site. Naples is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world. It was founded in the 6th century BC by Greek settlers. The Romans greatly respected Naples Greek heritage and the people of Naples continued to uphold their Greek traditions and speek the Greek language even as part of the Roman Empire. After changing hands many more times, Naples finally joined the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.
Things to see and do in Naples
There are many churches and beautiful historic buildings which one can visit in Naples, for example the Palazzo Reale. This coastal city is incredibly beautiful and although it does have some severe waste management issues it is still a wonderful city to just stroll around. With the sea and the dormant volcano Vesuvius next door, there is plenty to do in nature too.
