Directly opposite the lighthouse is the harbour entrance, also known as the "Firkas" fortress. This is where the flag of the Greek republic was hoisted in 1913 for Crete's union.
When visiting the city a great way to get to the know the city is to enjoy one of the Chania Old Town Walks where you will get the chance to see the church, ruins, monuments and Venetian townhouses.
