Getting to Ostia Beach
Go to Stazione di Termini in central Rome and take the metro towards Piramida (Line B, blue). Here you will need to change to a Line towards Colombo. Once in Ostia, it is merely a 5 minute walk towards the beach.
From 5:30 a.m. until11:30 p.m. the metro runs every 7-10 minutes, every day, except Saturday, when it runs until 12:30 a.m.
Taking a car to Ostia Beach is not recommended, as traffic build up very quickly and parking is very limited during the high season.
The Beach
There are several different sections of Ostia Beach. Some are private and some are public ones. The private ones cost a fee to get in and then an additional fee to rent a lounge chair or an umbrella. However, these beaches usually have better facilities and are cleaned on a regular basis. At these private beaches, there are oftentimes restaurants, pools, children’s play areas and other socializing activities.
Rentals at private beaches cost 6-7 euros for chairs and umbrellas and 5 euros at public beaches.
Climate
At Ostia Beach and in all of Rome, you will find a Mediterranean climate. The summers are warm and dry, and the winters are mild and humid. During the warmest months (July and August), the average temperatur eis 30 Celsius, and down to 20 Celsius during the coldest month of January.
