Description
One of the most beautiful and largest botanical collections in Europe, founded in 1868 by citizens of Frankfurt. To start with, they purchased the collection of tropical plants of the Duke of Nassau and they built the palm house to store them in. Inside the glass and iron structure it is like making your way through a jungle. The Palmengarten includes almost 30 hectares of open areas and 10,000 m2 of display houses, and you will also find themed gardens, rose displays, the Tropicarium, a boat pond, a theatre stage and a concert venue for jazz and chamber operas. Since 2004, Café Siesmeyer with its huge summer terrace has been situated on the left in front of the main entrance.
Duke Adolf von Nassau laid the foundation for one of the world's oldest collections of exotic plants.
