The Piazza del Duomo is the Cathedral Square in Milan and the main geographical and cultural center. It is named after the Cathedral who's magnificence dominated the square, however the Duomo is not the only beautiful building.The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II and the Royal Palace also radiate grandeur.
 
History of the Piazza del Duomo
The Piazza has been slowly evolving for a long time. Azzone Visconti the Lord of Milan in the early 1300s was the first to have the vision which created the square. It was between 1865 and 1873 that most of the 'modern' landmarks were added, under the direction of Guiseppe Mengoni, including the Galleria. The Piazza managed to avoid any major damage since then and has retained it's traditional beauty and elegance. Just the people who visit the Piazza have changed!
