The evacuations of Pompeii have given us an extroadinary insight into the life of a city at the hight of the Roman Empire. To really get to know the world's largest city ruin, you need at least a day and solid footwear. It is now a UNESCO World heritage site.
 
Visiting Pompeii
The best way to gain a good understanding of the ancient structure of the city is to visit it starting from the Porta Marina. Some of the buildings can only be visited if you register in advance!
