Description
The British financed the construction of the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais, which became the model for beach promenades the world over. Russian aristocrats chose Nice as their winter domicile, and St. Nicholas' Cathedral, founded by the Czar's family in 1912, is still the biggest Russian Orthodox church building outside the home country. A prime example of Nice's Belle Epoque palaces is the Negresco. Built in 1913 with a red dome, its reputation as one of the world's best hotels has few detractors.
