Description
How does salt get into the sea? The miners who give guided tours of the Berchtesgaden salt mine probably cannot answer that question. But they do know everything there is to know about the salt mining operation that has taken place in these mines since 1517. The tour underground starts off with visitors donning traditional mining suits. You then take the pit train several hundred metres down into the mountain where an infinitely long and magnificently steep slide leads on further down. There is no child that would not be utterly enthralled after this entrance! A film is also shown.
Slides and a raft are used to chronicle the history of salt - learning can be fun!
