Description
This palace was built in around 1120 as a castle, then renovated and expanded several times until from 1862-1883 Prince Otto zu Stolberg-Wernigerode, Vice-Chancellor under Otto von Bismarck, ordered a complete reconstruction in a historic style. The guided tours allow you to visit over 40 rooms which still have the original furnishings from the 19th century, including the ballroom and the castle church. The view from the keep extends over the town, the Harz foothills and the mountains of the Upper Harz range.
The castle museum of the "Neuschwanstein of the north" shows a 19th century residential castle.
