Shipwreck Cabo Santa Maria
On the coast of Boa Esperenca the shipwreck of the Spanish Freightship Cabo de Santa Maria can be found, which dates back to 1968.

History of Cabo Santa Maria
When the ship grounded in 1968, the inhabitants of the island were able to obtain all ofthe freight. The crew of the ship was not harmed and left the island shortlyafter, without the freight and the ship.
Many years later, it remains to be a one of the main attractions of the island.

Location of the Wreck
It is located just 8km northwesterly of Sal Rei, at the northern part of the island.

How to get to Cabo Santa Maria
From Praiada Chave you can reach the attraction by taking a difficult and disserted road towards the north. This road dates back to the Portuguese colonial time. It is recommended to hire a driver as many tourists have been robbed when going without a guide/driver.
Alternatively many foot paths lead to the Wreck as well, mostly starting at Sal Rei.
