General description: Topkapi Palace
Topkapi Place is home to the Ottoman sultans and overlooks the Bosphorus. It is the crown jewel of the Ottoman Empire. Full of history and things to see it is a must if you are going to Istanbul. The building was first constructed in 1459.The first courtyard of the palace is a large garden surrounded by high walls. It is the largest of all of the courtyards.
The second courtyard was primarily used to hold audiences. It was also home to many peacocks and gazelles.
The third courtyard contains the audience hall of the Sultan and is mainly the heart of the palace. This houses a fantastic exhibition of robes, famous jewels and works of art.
Harem contains more than 400 rooms. The Harlem consists of a series of buildings and structures. All of the services teams had their ownliving space located around the courtyard.
Now constructed into a museum, the Topkapi palace allows its visitors to wander through and experience the history and culture for themselves.
Top tip: It can get very crowded so arrive early when visiting
