Description
The royal battleship Vasa sank in Stockholm harbour on its maiden voyage in 1628 because of a construction defect. It was only raised, with the greatest difficulty, in 1961 and carefully preserved and restored. It is an experience simply entering the museum: the imposing battleship looms out of the darkness in a gigantic hall. Three galleries which surround the Vasa's original hulk contain various exciting exhibitions with lots of items illustrating the Vasa's history.
For 333 years, the royal warship lay on the seabed off Stockholm, it is now in the museum.
