Mount Vesuvius is the famous volcano which buried Pompeii back in 79 A.D. It is still active and is seen as the most dangerous volcano in the world because 3 million people live within it's vincinity. Vesuvius last erupted during WWII in 1944.Visiting Vesuvius
As the volcano is still active you can see the rising fumes from the crater. A not so regular bus service or a private taki will take you up the first part of the mountain but the last 500m are a steep uphill climb on foot or with a mountain bike.
