General description: Vesuvius Volcano

Mount Vesuvius is the famous volcano which buried Pompeii back in 79 A.D. It is still active and is seen as the most dangerous volcano in the world because 3 million people live within it's vincinity. Vesuvius last erupted during WWII in 1944.
 
Visiting Vesuvius
As the volcano is still active you can see the rising fumes from the crater. A not so regular bus service or a private taki will take you up the first part of the mountain but the last 500m are a steep uphill climb on foot or with a mountain bike.

Taxis will cost around €10 one way from Herculaneum
Bus from Pompeii return €8.70
