The Washington Monument was built in the early 1880's in honor of the United States of America's first President George Washington. It stands 555'5" tall and is shaped like an Egyptian obelisk.An icon of American Independence
The Washington Monument is one of Washington, D.C's most prominent landmarks and has been around for almost one and a half centuries. From the top you have views over the whole of the city in excess of 30 miles. It is part of the National Mall and Memorial Parks run by the National Park Service.

Tickets are released on a first come first served basis. You need to go to the Washington Monument Lodge on 15th street on the day you would like to climb the monument. The Lodge opens at 8:30am and you can choose which time slot you would like depending on what is left. One person can pick up a maximum of 6 tickets for the day.
When it's busy lines start to form at 7am or earlier so it is definitely the case of the early bird catches the worm.

You can also reserve tickets online or by calling 1.877.444.6777. The service charge is $1.50 per ticket and they can be picked up at the "will call" window at the lodge on the day of your tour.
