Wilhelma is Germany's only and Europe's largest zoological and botanical gardens is home to more than 9000 animals and numerous plants from all over the world.
 
What Wilhelma offers
The animals who live here rang3 from the silk spider to the crocodile. Magnolias bloom here in April, and parrots and squirrel monkeys will welcome you on the subtropical terraces. A world-famous attraction are the gorillas, chimpanzees and orangutans which live in families at Wilhelma. The Amazon House gives you an impression of what subtropical climates are like, and in the petting enclosure you can touch and feed the animals. Wilhelma was created between 1842 and 1853 as Moorish gardens and a small oriental paradise very much in line with the tastes at the time. In the summer months, it is very relaxing to take a stroll through Wilhelma at the reduced evening rate after 4 p.m. The animal houses are closed one hour after the last people are allowed to enter the park.
