In the NORTHWEST, you can visit :

TRIPOLI : visit the green place and the medina (the old city) : It contains many historic mosques, inns (Funduk), hammams (Turkish baths)… Then, have a taste of tea with mint in the colonial district and discuss with the inhabitants, a very friendly and welcoming people. Then, go to the archeological museum of this city.

SABRATHA : see the rest of the thermal baths and the theatre. The museum contains an extensive collection of small objects of everyday use founded in the houses, pottery, glass, bronze utensil...

GHARIYAN : visit traditional troglodytes dwellings of the region, a cave house containing everyday items dating back over 100 years.

QASR EL HADJ and NALUT : visitors can explore an exemple of berber architecture : the ancient granaries which recesses of the rooms were built from local rock, gypsum and mud.

Oasis of GHADAMES : a UNESCO World Heritage Site in southwest of Tripoli. Once named the “Pearl of the Desert” you can explore in this region, dunes, Palm trees and the traditional architecture.

KABAU : visit ghorfas at castle of Kabau.

LEPTIS MAGNA (Libda), a UNESCO World Heritage Site : it is located 120 kilometres east of Tripoli. It is an ancient Roman city. Visit the arch of Triumph of Septimus Severus, the Hadrianic Baths, the forum, the church with sculptures represented the twelve works of Hercule, scenes of Bacchus life…

TURMISA : an ancient Berber village still intact. You can see the traditional style of buildings, houses, rooms some of which still bear decorations and roofs made of braided branches. The outstanding feature of this location is the mosque and probably the olive press. The mechanism used for powering was by the usage of camels that rotated the core element of the press.

If you want go to the beach, go to Janzour, town situated 15 kilometres west of Tripoli. Enjoy a beautiful sandy coastline with beaches ! You can also visit its small museum which contains historical testimonies about the beginnings of some ancient religions that prevailed in Libya a long time ago.



In the SOUTH, you can visit :

SEBHA : the old oasis. It is considered as the beginning of the Desert. Visit the Zellaf Nature Reserve.

GERMA : is an archaeological site in Libya with major ruins. These ruins are located in Southern Libya, 160 kilometers South-West of Sabha. The Garamantes, who belonged to a large Libyan tribe, experienced in desert traveling, founded it.

DESERT Lakes : Visit some of them such as in the Wadi al Haya valley (Valley of Life) like Umm Al Maa lake, Mandara lake, Gaber Oun lake and Almafu lake.

The ACACUS region, a wonderful « natural museum » : this region offers spectacular desert and mountain scenery. Admire Rock paintings. A visit to the Acacus is a never-to-be-forgotten experience. Visit for exemple, the wadi Tanezzouft to discover the rock art area, Tachwinet and wadi Matchandouch to admire the famous engravings and paintings...

IDAHAN : Visit the dunes of this region.

GHAT : The old city is found on a hillside. Visit it and don’t forget to admire the mosque there!




In the NORTHEAST, you can visit :

APOLLONIA, (modern SUSAH):. it was established by the Greeks as a port to Cyrene in the 7th century. So, go to see the antique harbour, the small theatre carved into the rocks, the Byzantine palace and the rest of columns of churches.

CYRENE, a UNESCO World Heritage Site : it is famous for colossal monuments such as the Temples of Zeus and Apollo, the Great Baths and the theatre, which is a mixture of Greek and Roman origins.

Tolmeita : Visitors can admire ruins of The Greek theater, the \"Porta Tauchira\",
luxurious private houses (like the \"Villa of the Four seasons\" and the \"Palace of the columns\" constructed, with mosaic floors of the fine quality.

QASR LIBYA : situated 50 kilometres west of Cyrene, Qasr Libya boasts its two ancient Byzantine churches. They contains excellent Byzantine mosaics in the form of magnificent beautiful plates. Don’t forget visit The Qasr Libya museum to admire mosaics which topic cover a wide spectrum of life and nature !

BENGHAZI : It is architecturally attractive overlooking the sea with a marina and many beaches that make up the coastline. The old city is also very attractive with its covered alleyways. There are historical sites which make a trip there worthwhile, such as Sug Al-Jreed.
