Hi everybody!
A friend of mine scared me a bit, telling me that there are lots of sand bugs in Cuba, that bite. Is that true? Planning to go there with my girlfriend in a month. Hope this doesn\'t sound to stupid.

Hi! I remember that there were many sand bugs at Varadero Beach in 1990!
But neither in 1997 (Cayo Coco) nor in 2000 (Cayo Largo) there were bugs on the beach at any time! Cuba is a beautiful island, with or without bugs!!!
Greetings Strandkoenig (Beachking)!

I\'m sure a true Beachking will tell me the right thing... so you think I can go? Any other creeping animals around in the waters there? Jelly fish, sea orchins? Do I need shoes or can I feel the
sand between my toes without problems?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Sam!
Dont be scared about this small animals. I was in Varadero this year and I can tell you that I have see/feel them just at sunrice and sunset and not all over the beach. I havent seen any jellyfish. sea orchins?-sorry my dictionary dont know this word.
In Varadero you dont need any shoes at the beach or ocean. The water is cristal clear and so you can see stones or anything else.
Have a great time in cuba!!!
Sorry for my terrible english...!

Hi Sam!
Diana has right. There was no jellyfish at any time. You don’t also need any footwear on
the beach. There is only fine white sand. It will pet your feet. Cuba is a wonderful island,
above and under water. Enjoy your stay in this caribbean paradise!

Just came back from a lovely trip to Cayo Coco....
There ARE SAND BUGS... their bite makes a mosquito bite look like a walk in the park. They leave hard, red, swollen itchy bumps that itch so bad I could not sleep at night. I was bitten over 200 times on my legs and a few times on my arms. Avoid the beach at sunset and sunrise and for the love of God, use REPELLANT. A good one.
Also, there are tons of jellyfish. They are clear, colourless and somewhat small. Very hard to see but all over the place. Be careful in the water and watch where you step.
Despite this, we still had a good trip. Enjoy!

There were sand bugs in Cuba when we were there and some people were bitten badly by them, luckily me and my bf did not.
Would not let the possibilty you getting bitten stop you going though Cuba is amazing
