For getting a Vietnam visa from US is not challenging

It will not be whether you are a prospective student, workeror permanent resident. Just be prepared to have enough money and perhaps a goodimmigration attorney on hand.

 

1. Get Vietnam visa pre-approval letter

 

Step1 - Apply for a visa independently if you aren't looking forwork sponsorship and aren't moving there as a student. Visit the website Vietnam visa, and fill in the appropriate information regardingyour names, passport number, date of birth and other criteria.

 

Step 2 - Pay your visaapplication fee

Please see the Vietnam visa fees on our website for information about how to payyour visa  application fee and a full list of the fee categories.

Step 3 - Wait for Vietnam Immigration Dept decision

You can use processing times as a guide to our recent performance, although itcannot be used as a guarantee of your individual visa application processingtime. You can also use the free 'check status' facility on this website to findout the progress of your visa application. Visa applications are assessed individually and processing times may vary.

Step 4 - Receive the visa approval letter for your visa request

We will inform you when your documents are ready for collection. If you aretraveling in a group, we will send the visa approval letter to the nominatedpersonal email address.

Now, it is your turn to check again to make sure:

- Your personal details are correct
- It correctly states the purpose for which you want to come to Vietnam
- It is valid for the date on which you want to travel. (You can ask for it tobe post-dated for up to three months if you do not plan to travel immediately).

 
Step 5 - Prepare your documents
 

- Prepare 02 latestpassport-sized photos (in color, 4*6cm size, with a face straight forward)
- Show this printed approval to theAirlines when you get on board.

 

2. Vietnam visa in US

 

A VISA to Vietnam can be applied for by mail or in personat the Embassy of Vietnam as early as six months prior to the date of travel.The applicant must submit:

 

- Original PASSPORT (which requires at least 01 month validity prior thedate of exit from Vietnam and/or 06 month validity to meet airlines requirements). In urgent cases, aloose-leaf-visa can be requested, then a copy of passport (photo and personaldetail pages) may be submitted instead of the original passport.

 

- Application form form must be completed, signed and attached with 01original photo (2x 2in) . In case of a loose-leaf-visa request, 01 additionalphoto must be stapled to the form. If the applicant has already got A visa approval, she/he may write thereference number on the top of the form. For anyone who comes to Vietnam forless than 3 months and does not have visa approval, just leave visa approval number blank and the Embassy will take care of it. Additional processing feesfor visa approval may be required.

 
- Visa fees must be in the form of MONEY ORDER, or CASHIER CHECK, or CERTIFIED CHECK payable to THE EMBASSY OF VIETNAM. Applicants applyingtogether may submit combined payment in one money order or certified check. Feefor stamping visa can be checked at Consular Fee. Other current fees (such asvisa approval arrangement fee, processing fee, shipping, handling and expediteservices) may be checked at:

 

- A prepaid return envelope, if the applicant requests the visa be returnedby mail. Please use USPS - United States Postal Service (prepaid postage stampenvelope or return label bought online at www.usps.com) or prepaid return FedExlabel (bought online at www.fedex.com - The Embassy does not accept credit cardfor FedEx mailing service). For your documents safety, the Embassy advices touse USPS Express Mail or FedEx with the tracking numbers. Applicants applyingtogether may provide one envelope for visas to be returned to the same address.For international shipping, please pay in the form of money order payable tothe Embassy of Vietnam.
Diplomatic and official visas will be granted GRATIS unless otherwise agreedupon between Vietnamand the applicant country. In addition to the documents specified in (I), theapplicant must submit a note verbal or an official letter from the relevantagencies of the US Government, Embassies or Consulates accredited to the United States,and international organizations.

 

Processing Time: Five business days are required to processvisa applications with approval. Expedited processing requires one to twobusiness days after the Embassy has received the application (additional feerequired).


Note: Please keep the tracking numbers of the envelopes to and from theEmbassy. When the above deadlines have passed, use the tracking number to checkwith the mailing service first.

Please do not make telephone inquires on the status of your application(make sure that you keep your passport number for this request) until after the3rd business day for an expedited case and the 7th business day for a regularcase.


The Embassy will be closed on Saturday, Sunday, Vietnamese and USholidays 2010. Please take account of the observed holidays inplanning for your visa application and travel. In addition, no mail can bedelivered at the Embassy during weekends and holidays.
