If you dont speak the language in S. America?

How difficult is it to travel and get by if you only speak english in south america? I just wondered, cause id like to go one day but i only speak english. should i try and learn some words and phrases before i go? does this help?

I´ve been to Brazil twice and I can assure you that you won´t have any problems with the locals.Latin American people have a unique quality, and that is being extremely communicative!! They probably won´t be able to speak English, but they will sure find a way to make themselves understood
Don´t give up your trip: South America is indeed a special place!!
