Is New York as great as everyone says it is?

I'm just wondering, as you can see from the title, if New York is really as amazing as everyone says it is? You hear loads of it, but somehow I'm just not convinced. I mean, how does it compare to older European cities, for example? Does it have the same kind of culture? Or does it make up for that other ways, like food or fashion or architecture? What do you guys think? Who's been there? Did you all like it or did some people not like it so much? My boyfriend is dying to go but I'm just not convinced!! Thanks!!

New York is definitely amazing - whether it will be your cup of tea or not is another matter. In any case, it is definitely worth a visit. It's not really comparable to most European cities - the feel is just totally different and the culture is different too. It's hard to describe really.

If you're already a bit sceptical, it may mean you wouldn't fall in love with it, but even if you decided it wasn't your kind of place overall, I don't think you could ever regret going there. There is simply so much to see, do and experience and there is something to please almost anyone!

I'm new here but I hope I can help you. I think New York is absolutely incredible! I have already been five times, but I always want to go back for more. Every time I go I find something new I love about the place, from little restaurants and delis to parks, amazing shops or gorgeous buildings. Don't be worried about getting sucked into only doing touristy things if that's the problem - check out some local guides before you go and it's easy to get to know the 'real' New York. You won't regret it!
