Which one better to visit in Australia: Cairns or Brisbane?

Hi, we are 4 members in family and will be visiting Australia for a week this summer (July.) We have already decided to visit Sydney for 3 days and are now choosing between Cairns and Brisbane.

I was wondering which city would be better to visit for 4 days in your opinions. The biggest concern on activities for children, weather, and beaches. We could visit both cities (2 days each) but feel that it would be a bit of a rush.

1 week in OZ, is short but then i guess you can always come back for more.

I should suggest Cairns, as your finale from Sydney. Brisbane doesn't offer so much in terms of nature. Family getaway goes to cairns but for 4 days, it will be too far for you guys to do that. Unless you have unlimited budget where you can transport to Cairns by plane.

brisbane can also offer you a getaway worth to be remembered. the most practical way to get there is by countrylink BUT again time constraint its 14-15 hours and fare is around $90-130 (depending on the season) for the economy seats.If you decide on going by plane, make it to Cairns.
